emw law can call upon the services of its own specialist in-house planning team to assist in any relevant commercial transactions and to handle clients’ requirements for pure planning advice and assistance, including the submission and negotiation of applications.
The team is headed by Giles Ferin who has over 25 years’ experience in the field gained in both the public and private sectors. He has been a member of the Law Society’s Planning Panel since its inception and has extensive experience acting as advocate at inquiries into both development control and development plan matters. He has been acknowledged as an expert in planning matters in every edition of “Legal Experts” since 1999.
Giles has handled applications and appeals for residential, office, industrial, sport/leisure and other commercial matters acting for local authorities, developers and private individuals all over the country but the majority of his current work is based in the Home Counties, South Midlands and East Coast areas.
Giles also has considerable experience in the negotiation and drafting of planning obligations including tariff based obligations for both developers and local authorities and by way of agreement and by unilateral undertaking. He is currently advising two Local Planning Authorities on major development proposals; one involving a mixed use development to provide 3000 dwellings, schools, District Centre and open space and the other involving a mixed use development of a 23 hectare greenfield site to provide residential and employment development, open space and medical facilities.
