Building A Better Legacy

OUR POSITIVE APPROACH

Our positive, pragmatic and proactive approach extends to our commitment to a sustainable future and improving the social, economic and environmental well-being of our communities is really important to us.

We’re very excited to announce that we’ve recently become a B Corp.  B Corp Certification is awarded only to those businesses that meet very high standards in social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

It’s a huge achievement and we’re all extremely proud.  When our Chair, Nick Lloyd, first became aware of B Corp, its entire ethos struck him as being incredibly powerful and also something that all of our wonderful EMW people were already massively aligned with.

Part Of The Community

OUR CHOSEN CHARITIES

We work and support many charities in and around our offices in Milton Keynes, Gatwick and London. This alongside 3 chosen charities, one in each of our locations, which we pick as our main charities of the year.

These are reviewed on a two-yearly basis and everyone at EMW takes part in the proposal as well as voting for them. We are proud to say they are currently:

Ride High

Ride High is a registered charity that transforms the lives of disadvantaged children by giving them the opportunity to learn to ride and look after horses and ponies.

Crawley Open House

Crawley Open House is a year-round, high support hostel for those who are experiencing homelessness and hardship, also providing life-skills training and resettlement support for our residents and service-users.

The Soup Kitchen

The Soup Kitchen is a resource for the homeless, elderly, lonely and vulnerable in London. Providing free nutritious meals, clothing, toiletries and a sense of belonging to over 150 people each day.

About us

How we help

There are many ways that we help and support our charities, this can be from raising much needed money, examples are: taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge raising £6,650, hosting fun events including an Easter egg hunt and lunch for the children at Ride High, collecting household items for Crawley Open House plus whole range of initiatives the team here choose to do themselves.

We also provide considerable pro-bono advice to many not for profit businesses and contribute in other ways by sitting on boards or being trustees of various charities.

Supporting our people

Making sure that everyone at EMW has a good work-life balance is really important to us as well as providing a great working and positive environment.  We have a range of initiatives in place to ensure that we have the best support, assistance and of course hopefully some fun.

Our Wellbeing at Work hub provides helpful and supporting information to equip everyone with the tools and support to raise awareness, de-stigmatise and encourage conversation around mental health and our overall campaign for wellness.

We have 20 wellbeing champions who have also been trained as mental health first aiders to ensure that help is at hand in every office.

Our Out of Office Club regularly host events and activities that include organised walks, games evenings and theatre trips as well plus much more including our very own baking club where we can win points for our teams and enjoy some great cakes too.

Our environmental approach

Our commitment to reducing energy and using renewable energy sources as far as possible is to become a net zero organisation by 2050 inline with the UK’s target.  We are continually working on initiatives to enable us to do this including more recently installing 8 EV charging points.

Carbon Neutral Printing

We’re delighted to be working in partnership with our print supplier to ensure carbon neutral printing through PrintReleaf that contributes to reforestation projects in Ireland, Dominican Republic and Madagascar.

Lee Killner, IT Director, comments: “We’re delighted to be offered this opportunity from our print supplier and although we’re aiming to reduce our printing as much as we can throughout our offices, knowing that the printing we do need to do is now going to contribute to certified reforestation projects is certainly a re-leaf!”

PrintReleaf has pledged to plant 10 million standard trees by 2030, click here to find out more.

Our focus for the next five years is to:

  • Implement interventions to further reduce power consumption focused on air conditioning, building fabric, insulation, heating, ventilation, and water.
  • Review onsite renewable energy sources through solar panel installation.
  • Continue to purchase 100% renewable energy.
  • Manage and reduce all employee travel and development of a tighter travel policy.
  • Develop scheme to promote use of low or zero emission cars.
